Indian Ocean Overwater Villas
Outside the Maldives the Indian Ocean has a small and growing set of overwater villas, and the newest of them are off Zanzibar. Mauritius has suites over a natural lagoon rather than a reef flat, Pemba has a room with a bedroom below the waterline, and Tanzania's east coast now has several purpose-built over-water resorts. Sri Lanka's version sits over a brackish lagoon rather than the sea, which is a different product and we say so. Water here is generally deeper and less transparent than in an atoll, tides swing further, and the trade-off is that you can bolt the stay onto a safari or a proper city without crossing an ocean twice.
